Helloo to anyone in the wedding blogosphere! I was recently approved to be a part of the Offbeat Bride Tribe member and am pretty stoked to be a part of a site that isn’t chocked full of elaborate and expensive wedding ideas and items. The main thing (if I could even honestly choose a main thing) that I love about this site is that everyone is soo DIY crafty! I’m partially crafty and by partially I mean when I’m not being so damn lazy and this site recently inspired me to make my own Save the Dates.
My friends and family are very much aware of my wedding date (facebook posts every 5 days anyone?) because it’s been in the work for two years now. We were supposed to get married this past June, but (un)fortunately for me, my fiance is not a US Citizen. He’s better - Australian! Regardless, we had issues with getting his visa in time, so we had to postpone. In the end though, I’m so glad we’ve had this extra time to reevaluate our theme and options because everything has changed and definitely for the better.
Did I get off the beaten path? Anyway, the first time around, we had this totally amazing idea for our save the dates. I bought blue cardstock, printed our favorite photo on it in brown ink, then attached velum (or whatever that clear transparent paper is) over the top of it with shiny little eyelets. It took FOR-EFFIN-EVER! Then when we found out we had to postpone our wedding date and my labor was rendered useless, I swore off hand making anything for the next date. But the crafting bug caught me again.
I was merely strolling around my neighborhood Michael’s Craft Store just looking for general ideas and came home with cardstock, stamps, stickers, and ink galore! I didn’t even know what I was going to actually make or do with any of this stuff, but it fit our theme, so I bought it. Yeah, I’m impulsive and once I start, I can’t really stop myself. Our wedding is travel themed because both of our families are flying/driving over-mine from a couple states away and his from Australia. It only seemed completely perfect. I spent a couple hours for three days placing stickers, cutting them out, stamping, and making my own envelopes and now on my desk sit the most awesome little reminders I’ve ever seen. Then again, I’m definitely biased. :D
